Wingtip was built around one simple principle: your collection lives on your phone. There is no account, no sign-up and no advertising profile. This page describes exactly what the app does with your data — and, above all, what it does not do with it.

Your location

Your location is used solely to look for aircraft around you. On each scan it is sent to our technical relay, which queries the flight data sources and returns the list of nearby aircraft. It is never stored in a database, never linked to an identifier, and never used for any other purpose. Without this permission, the app cannot work.

What stays on your device

Your collection, your progression (XP, ranks, achievements, challenges), your profile (nickname, photo, home airport, favourite airline) and your settings are stored locally on your device. We have no access to them. Clearing the site or app data erases them permanently.

What we receive

• Anonymous progression statistic: to show your percentile (“you are in the top X % of spotters”), the app reports an experience bracket to the server at most once a day — with no identifier whatsoever. The server only keeps a global histogram: it is technically impossible to trace it back to a person.
• Voluntary feedback (web version only): if you use the report button, which appears on the version viewed in a browser, we receive what you write, your first name if you give it, a screenshot if you attach one, and basic technical information (browser, screen size, active tab). This feedback is used only to improve the app. The app installed from the App Store does not offer this button and therefore collects no feedback.

Flight data sources

Aircraft positions and identification come from airplanes.live, OpenSky Network and adsbdb; aircraft photos come from planespotters.net when the exact airframe is identified, and from Wikimedia Commons otherwise. These requests pass through our relay: those third-party services never receive your IP address directly.

Cookies and trackers

Wingtip uses no tracking cookie, no advertising tracker and no third-party analytics tool.

Hosting

The service is hosted by OVH SAS (2 rue Kellermann, 59100 Roubaix, France), within the European Union.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have a right of access, rectification and erasure. As almost all of your data is stored on your own device, you can erase it yourself at any time. For any question or request: contact us.
